Wishing you all a meaningful  Memorial Day. I know that we have a number of service people and their families who listen to the show and follow the blog, both at home and abroad. Thank you for everything you do and all the sacrifices you make.

To commemorate Memorial Day this year, we bought a new flag and my husband rigged it yesterday just in time for our Memorial Day family bash. I knew he had done a good job when the self-appointed Neighborhood Flag Marshal commented on how beautiful our flag looked.

While he flew the Stars and Stripes, I blanched the beans and asparagus. I know I said on Chaos Chronicles Podcast 232 that the get-together was about swimming, not lunch. But then my husband said, “I’ll grill.” And the food prep escalated fro there. I took out my trusted Barefoot Contessa Cookbook and adapted the Grilled Tuna Salad Nicoise for our needs.

My sister-in-law brought Sprinkles Cupcakes in honor of my nephew Daniels 10th birthday. By the time I made the coffee and lead the family in Happy Birthday, the cupcakes were gone! Too late for a picture!

Today,  we’ll be slapping the leftovers between two slices of delicious dill bread  and adding some fresh goat cheese for paninis!

I am out of the loop, for some reason have not gotten the barefoot contessa cookbook yet….will do immediately…. it IS about the food and I seem to need a refresher course! the photos are great …. thanks Lian.

I love the Barefoot Contessa – she’s all about assembling simple things rather than really taking a huge amount of time to make complicated stuff. Love her brownie recipe – it’s my go to and everyone loves them.

Thank you for the meaningful Memorial Day wishes, Lian. Looks like your family celebrated in style! I am remembering my two favorite veterans, this weekend — my parents, both Army vets of World War II.

Anything I ever make from the Contessa’s cookbooks turn out great. I think the Nicoise Salad would be good for my bookclub weekend at the cabin.
