TV-Free Family Nights and “Angry” Balsamic Chicken Cacciatore

by Lian on November 8, 2011

What’s happening at your house tonight? Homework? Viewing cute baby animal videos on YouTube ? Catching up on last night’s Gossip Girl while the boys are at soccer practice? ( Oh, wait… that’s me. That’s what I’m doing tonight. ) If you looking for a few ideas on what to do and what to make for dinner, take my advice.

No, really, take my advice. My new column is up at makinglifebetter.com called Tips for a TV-Free Family Night. (Because I’m guessing we’re all pretty knowledgeable about how to have a TV- Full Family Night!) Some fun, free ideas to hang with the kids without Homer and Marge coming along for the ride. Do you have your own TV-Free family night ideas? Please share with the rest of us.

And who isn’t intrigued by an “angry” chicken? Looking through the recipe files at makinglifebetter.com, I stumbled upon “Angry” Balsamic Chicken Cacciatore — and gosh darn, that’s what I’m making for dinner tonight. Some of my fave things in one recipe: balsamic vinegar and emotion. Some nights, I feel like an angry chicken and I have most of the ingredients in my fridge!

The angry balsamic chicken looks great although I might have to take the angry part out to make it kid-friendly. But, we’ll give it a try. I need some slow cooker recipes, too. Any suggestions?

Cyndi– seriously, this was delicious. My kids loved it– and so did I . Though I enjoy toast, too. Lian

I need some inspiration in the meal prep department so I’ll check it out – I go through a lot of “can we just have toast for dinner” nights even though I know it’s wrong … ! Love the Angry chicken – tell young kids it’s the Angry Bird special and they will perk up for sure.
