Lian, Dr. Nancy: I wish I had had you two in my life when my child was going through this; when I was going through this.

Our son only applied to 2 colleges. He got the rejection letter from his first choice early in the fall of his senior year. The acceptance letter to the state university arrived right before Christmas. We like to tease, so we put the letter in his stocking to be opened Christmas morning…….HUGE mistake!!! He had been worrying that he wouldn’t get in to any college. We didn’t realize how stressed he was.

Our daughter went back and forth between graduating a year early and sticking around another year with her friends. In January of her Junior year she finally decided she wanted to graduate in May! She took the extra classes (night school and online) to finish. Her essay sealed her fate. She was honest about who she was, where she had been and where she wanted to go in her life. She went from almost dropping out of high school to earning her MS in Psychology in 6 years.
